There are no initial clues given as to what the word could be, but once you have made a guess, the tiles will change colour letting you know more about the letters in the word. The three different colours the tiles could change to are grey, yellow, or green.
Grey indicates that the letter you guessed is not in the word at all, so you should avoid using it in future guesses.

Green indicates that you have guessed the correct letter and placed it in the correct location, which is the colour you want to see!
There is also a hard mode for the game in which you are forced to use any correctly guessed letters from the previous row in every guess you make.

What is the Wordle 1399 Answer Today? (April 18th, 2025)
Here is how I managed to solve Wordle 1399 in three guesses today. I guessed the word ‘AUDIO’ first, which is my usual starter word.
This word showed me there is a D and I in the answer today, but neither of these have been correctly placed.
The next word I decided to guess was ‘CHIDE’ as it puts the known letters in different positions and has an E in it.
This word placed the E correctly as the last letter but didn’t place the I and D in the Wordle answer today.
I thought the word would begin with a D, which would mean the I is the second letter.
I was then able to solve the answer to Wordle 1399 in my next guess, which is…
DIRGE!
