Here are all the spells in Hogwarts Legacy and how to get them in the game.
Knowing spells is essential for any witch or wizard in Hogwarts Legacy and some of these spells you will need to learn along the way whilst others are already known to you.
In Hogwarts Legacy, there are eight essential spells and 23 other spells you can use. You are able to keep four of the 23 spells in the spell slots and you can change between these depending on the quest you are completing and the spells you will need to keep at hand.
Hogwarts Legacy Spell List
Essential Spells
The eight essential spells you do not need to allocate to the spell slots are:
- Basic Cast – deals minor damage to enemies and objects.
- Revelio – highlights a variety of useful and interactive targets in the world, including hidden objects, puzzle items, loot, enemies, and more.
- Protego – protects against a variety of attacks, including spell casts, weapon strikes and more. Waiting to cast Protego until the last moment before an impact results in a Perfect Protego that damages melee attackers and reflects projectiles back, breaking enemy shields.
- Stupefy – stuns enemies, making them easy targets for follow-up spells. It deals no direct damage but stunned enemies take extra damage, indicated by gold numbers. It also breaks enemy Shield Charms (Except on Hard difficulty). When successfully deflecting an incoming attack with Protego, you can cast a stupefy counter-attack at whichever enemy you choose to target.
- Ancient Magic Throw – summons and then throws special environmental objects at the targeted enemy. Particularly useful for breaking through Shield Charms. You can cast it when the prompt is hovering over an object.
- Ancient Magic – when at least one segment of your Ancient Magic meter is full, you can cast a devastating Ancient Magic attack that deals massive damage and breaks Shield Charms. You will be able to cast it when you see the prompt above an enemy’s head.
- Alohomora – Grants access to a variety of locked rooms and containers throughout the world, but requires magical prowess to perform successfully. You can cast the spell when you are prompted near a valid key lock.
- Petrificus Totalus – powerful enough to bind most enemies permanently, but more dangerous foes will only take some damage and then quickly break free from the effect. Sneak up undetected to an enemy and you can perform the spell when you have the prompt..
Protego and Stupefy are the two spells you already know at the start of the game. The Basic Cast is taught to you by Professor Fig in the tutorial as well as Revelio.
The Ancient Magic Throw and Ancient Magic spells are learnt whilst completing the Welcome to Hogsmeade quest, when the trolls attacked. The Petrificus Totalus spell is learnt when completing the Secrets of the Restricted Section quest with the Disillusionment spell.
The Alohomora spell is taught to you by Gladwin Moon during The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament story quest, which is after you complete the first Ancient Magic trial.
There are other categories for the 23 spells you can allocate to the four-spell slots which are:
