Eric Williamson, a developer at Epic Games, talked about a new limited time game mode called Shooting Test #1. The game mode will be introduced to test out a different approach to the shooting model. This is being introduced as a game mode so that players can test out the shooting model and give feedback as to how it is going.
We know that there have been issues with the accuracy of shots in Fortnite and one of the first issues Epic is looking on tackling is the first-shot accuracy. Lets see what will be introduced in the first prototype.

Weapons now have first-shot accuracy, indicated by a red glow on the reticle: as it stands, the only way to know you have got a shot on an enemy is by seeing the number that pops up when the enemy has been hit, which shows the amount of damage taken. With the added red glow, it will be easier to see when shots are hitting the enemy.
Headshot critical hits have been reduced: Epic will be reducing the damage taken from headshots. Shotgun headshots will be reduced from 250% to 150% and other weapons will be reduced from 250% to 200%. This will make it easier for enemies to escape or react to the attack as they will be tcaking less damage.

Damage fall-off has been introduced for some weapons: Sniper Rifles, Rocket/Grenade Launchers and Shotguns will be unaffected by this, but other weapons will have reduced damage from different ranges, depending on the type of gun.
Other balance adjustments: The Semi-Auto Sniper has had its damage increased to 75/78 (from 63/66). Scoped Assault Rifle has had its damage increased to 25/26 (from 23/24).+2 Base damage to all SMGs.
Epic Games is planning on having quite a few prototypes for the community to test. This is a good way to test changes that need to be made in game and can be incorporated when no issues will arise and will better the performance of the game overall.
