Epic have recently added a Compact SMG to Fortnite Battle Royale in order to change the close-range combat, but the majority opinion on the weapon and SMGs as a whole, is that they are too overpowered. Epic agree and have now pushed a live hotfix to adjust the SMG’s to make them more in line with how Epic had wanted them to be.

Here are the changes that have been made to the SMG’s:

  • SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%.
  • SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19.
  • Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22.
  • SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12.
  • Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10.
  • SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff.
  • Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000.
  • Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%.
  • Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.

The changes made should balance the SMGs to be more in line with what they should be, but Epic will be monitoring how the SMGs perform and will be making adjustments if necessary.

It just goes to show that Epic are truly listening to the community and are making changes as and when it is needed, based on what the Fortnite community think. It hasn’t been too long since the Combat SMG was introduced to Fortnite Battle Royale, so Epic have actually acted upon this fairly quickly.

Put the SMG damage back up. The only people complaining are those who dont use stealth and movement in their game. Also put the shotgun damage back up too. If you were hit with either of these in real life you wouldnt keep jumping around like a kangaroo, especially after getting shot 3 times by the shotgun! They level the playing field between newbs and pros. Its the pros who a whining and yet its also the pros who are the ones waiting to kill newbs at challenges to build their stats up. Suck it up pros. Doesnt matter how… Read more »

Only people who use stealth are people who win solos bush camping and not pushing out and pros have the right to complain because whats the point in being good at the game if your literally thrown back to square one with the noobs who might not have spent the same time as someone whos been grinding to get better

I like the fact that Epic is trying to even the playing field for all types of game play. The Battle Royal concept is ultimately survival. So even the players that prefer to hide should have weapons that fit their style. All players seem to choose their loadouts based on their play… Stealth; silenced weapons, explosives, sniper rifles and subs. Aggressive; AR’s, shotguns, hunting rifles and meds. Passive; Bush camping, explosives, high mag spray and pray sub/compacts. Now of course building is the key and competitive edges with computers, modified controllers and thumbsticks are advantages that the casual players probably… Read more »
