Even though Epic have improved shotguns, there are still some bugs that are present in Fortnite Battle Royale when using this weapon, mainly ‘blank shots’.
There have been many issues with the shotguns in the past, with the mains ones being ‘blank shots’ and low damage. After many months of the community continuously asking for shotgun changes, Epic implemented a few changes to improve the shotguns, especially the pump, in v6.31 update. After this update, causing low damage to players is no longer an issue, but ‘blank shots’ is still an issue.

Blank shots is where players fire the shotgun and they see that it should have hit the player as they see the amount of pellets that hit in the crosshairs, but the shot has not been registered and the opponent takes no damage. Popular streamer and YouTuber, SypherPK, demonstrates this bug in the video seen below:
Can we PLEASE talk about this HUGE problem in Fortnite?

Sypher looks back at a fight he was having with an opponent to see what had happened and he sees that 9 pellets have hit the opponent and the shells in his shotgun have gone from 5 to 4, meaning he had fired the shotgun, however the enemy took no damage.
He goes on to say he had switched to the Silenced Assault Rifle quickly, but when switched back to his shotgun, it was showing 5 shells in the shotgun, as if the previous shot did not take place.
It seems as though switching between weapons too quickly will actually mean shots will not register, as the ping wasn’t too high in this fight and there are other members of the Fortnite Community who have also been losing fights due to this and there doesn’t seem to be any other explanation than switched weapons too quickly.

Another bug that has made players lose a fight is shotguns not firing at all. This happened to a few streamers in the Winter Skirmish and we have a clip of this happening to Ghost Aydan in the tournament:
Epic are continuously looking at ways to improve the game and fix bugs/glitches that take place. They have not commented on this yet, but we will keep you updated if anything changes.
