Epic have updated the in-game news feed to show that the Mounted Turret is coming soon to Fortnite Battle Royale. The description reads, “Place the Mounted Turret and hop in to apply some suppressive fire! Careful not to overheat”.
Epic Games are always updating Fortnite Battle Royale and changing the meta by adding different weapons and items. The latest items to be added to Fortnite were the Heavy Assault Rifle and the Balloons. The Turret is the first item that can be placed and used as a weapon in Fortnite, and will most likely be a trap item.
The description states that you will need to ‘hop-in’ to the Turret, which will leave you vulnerable to other players that can see you whilst you are firing the Turret. We may see a cool-down bar, as it will overheat if you fire continuously.
This is a surprising addition to the game as there are other weapons that have been data-mined, such as the Flamethrower, but have not been added to the game yet. Data-miners have not found any files on the Mounted Turret from past updates, but it seems as though Epic are trying to keep some items/weapons a surprise.
In the v6.21 update, Epic had removed quite a few weapons, including the Dual Pistols, Semi-Auto Sniper and the Guided Missile, although they are still available in Playground mode. The weapons were most likely removed to make room for other items to be introduced, such as the Heavy Assault Rifle introduced in the v6.22 update and now the Mounted Turret.
This item will be added in the next update, which will most likely drop on Tuesday or Wednesday, but we will keep you updated with the latest as it has not been confirmed which day the update will occur.
